This Is It!

Good morning and thanks for tuning in...Yesterday I had the chance to attend the premiere of Michael Jackson's movie "This Is It". Here's my suggestion, if you are a true fan, of course you'll go see the movie...however, if you have only one favorite MJ (as they call him in the movie) go see this movie! I been a fan of Michael's songs, I've watched, like so many others, his career splash across the world, and then listened in disbelief to the news stories surrounding his personal life. I never had the chance to attend a Michael Jackson concert, now I wish I did. It must have been an incredible experience to see him live. So that being said, I went to this premiere not really knowing what I was going to see, almost an "ok fine, it's Michael Jackson, bla bla bla attitude.
As I watched...these thoughts filled my head....

The only previous comment I'd heard from someone in the halls here at the station, was that "someone said Michael look tired"...I didn't see that. I saw a man in rehearsal, maybe not doing "the performance thing", or energy we'd see on stage later...but an artist at work. It's a side very few of us get to see, what goes into making these shows happen. I came away even a bigger fan. More appreciative of what he was trying to do with the gifts he obviously had been given. "This is It" shows Michael at work, doing what we've come to love and appreciate him for...Then you have to remember Michael was 50 years old and he still had it! He was up there on the screen and on that stage, among dancers half his age and showing them how it's done...and they loved it too! That was great to see. There's a point in the film that I personally loved, because it showed his creative genius...a moment when the man known for making sounds, knew when to use silence...pure magic.

It's sad that Michael never made it to London, but then again for whatever reason, if he did, we wouldn't have gotten a chance to see this side of Michael Jackson. Go see "This Is It" and enjoy and remember one more time, the true artistry of Michael Jackson.

Happy Monday!

Welcome back to start of another great week! I can't believe the holidays are right around the corner! Before we get into the latest music news and more I've got to thank Gene W. Doo M.D. and Hugh Hazenfield, M.D. As you may have noticed, I've been having a problem with my voice for the last few months. To be honest, I thought these 30 plus years of fun would have to come to an end. However with the help of Dr. Doo and Dr. Hazenfield, we figured out what was going on and, as hopefully you can tell, the treatments are working! Thanks guys! You are the BEST!

We've added a lot of new KOOL music to our mix and I would really love to hear your thoughts about it, so if you get a moment, drop me a line at edkanoi@msn.com or just respond here. It's hard to believe but even the late 80's and the 90's are moving into the KOOL Gold mix! Of course your favorite "oldies" will always be there with Uncle Tom's Rock and Roll Drive, every Saturday morning at 8 am.

Today's Music News 11/26/09:

Eric Clapton is bowing out of one of the biggest concerts of the year. Eric says he won't be taking part in the 25th Anniversary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame concerts because he has to undergo a minor medical procedure for gallstones. Rock Hall reps are wishing him well and plan to announce a replacement soon.

Elton John is down for a couple of dates due to illness. According to his website, the Rocket Man is recovering from a bout with the flu. Sir Elton John is instructing fans to keep their tickets and he has further announcements coming...

I'm looking forward to seeing "This Is It" the new Michael Jackson movie. I'll be attending a special premiere on Tuesday, so I'll have a review for you on Wednesday morning's show. The movie opens nationally on Wednesday. It is getting positive reviews from members of the late "King Of Pop's" family. Jackie Jackson has seen the film and she says it is "truly riveting" and goes on to say "Michael is electrifying!". The film will at the theatre for only 2 weeks so make plans to see it.

And speaking of the holidays, Motown is releasing "The Ultimate Motown Christmas Collection", a two disc compilation featuring a total of 51 tracks to warm your holiday season. Highlights include a Jackson 5 cover of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," The Four Tops singing "Merry Christmas Baby," The Supremes doing "Joy To The World," and Boyz II Men harmonizing on "Let It Snow." Other stars in the mix include Stevie Wonder, The Spinners, Smokey Robinson, and the Temptations. The collection should be in your favorite store in the next day or so, if it isn't already.

And Happy B-day to my son Ezekiel who'll be 3 tomorrow! That's him at the top of this page.
