He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

November 5, 2008

You've heard me talk about my older sister Verna, who keeps me in line when I get too loud and start playing too much Rock and Roll. Well, I had an older brother too, and although he was not involved in my life as much as Verna, I knew he was there. Yesterday I saw him for the last time in this stage of life, just hours before he chose to pass. I did get to tell him I love him, I did want to tell him to say hello to Mom ... but I was afraid. But somehow I think he knew what I was thinking...

Later on in the afternoon when my niece came home from work, she asked her Dad how was his day.... she told me he grabbed her hand and took his final breath....

Good bye Eddie, "Tell Mom I said hello..."

A big Mahalo!

I can't believe it's almost Thanksgiving!

Last week was very tough. I knew on Saturday morning my voice was going, and by Monday, it was. A big mahalo to Bart DaSilva and my friend Susan Bruhl for stopping by and helping me get through the week. Another big mahalo goes to Dr. Gene Doo for getting me back behind the microphone in just a few days ... I'll remember: No food 3 hours before bedtime, and No water at least two hours before bedtime! Thanks Doc! And I can't thank you enough, my loyal listening audience, for hanging in there with me! Mahalo for all the kind and sympathetic phone calls!

We had a great time with comedienne JUDY TENUTA on Wednesday morning. According to the phone calls I received from all of you, Judy is truly funny and "offbeat", definitely worth another listen if she returns to Honolulu. When we talked to her she was sitting in front of Cher's home in Los Angeles! I loved her story about running into Paris Hilton at the airport! Greg from Hawaii's Natural has been booking some great shows at the Pipeline Cafe these last few months. For his complete schedule of upcoming shows go to onstagehawaii.com.

I hope you had a fun Halloween. The boys and I did a short run around the Salt Lake area and had lot's of fun. It was Zeke's first Halloween! By the end of the night his candy bag was heavier than he was, but he wasn't going to let that stop him from Trick or Treating. (Thank goodness they've already forgotten about all the candy stashed in cupboard...now Daddy gets a Treat!)

We're saving you MONEY!

Check our new "Half-Price Deals" page. We've expanded the concept of our "Listener's Choice" program and are making available half-price deals on everything from rounds of golf, car detailing, home repair and maintenance! And of course we'll have great deals on all your favorite restaurants as well! This week we're featuring Louen's Restaurant, where you can experience wonderful Filipino cuisine -- located right across the street from us here on North King Street in Kalihi!

Election Day is a State Holiday with all State offices closed. Buses will be operating on a Sunday schedule, and most on-street parking will be free! Enjoy the day off if you have it, but please take an hour or so and participate in this historic election!

We'll be giving you a chance to WIN a Thanksgiving Turkey in the next week, and we've added a wonderful twist: When you win one, you'll get a chance to give one to someone who really needs it this Holiday! In this way we can all pass on the holiday cheer. Details will be posted soon! So Keep Listening to Oldies 107.9.

Aloha Friday October 24, 2008

Aloha, I'm Ed Kanoi (okay that's not really me at the right but we can dream)... and Mahalo for listening this morning!

It has been quite a period of readjustment after the changes we've made, but things are starting to settle down. This is my first entry in what I hope will become a weekly, if not daily update for YOU on what's going on at 'Mornings with Ed Kanoi' here at Oldies 107.9. I would be remiss if I didn't thank those of you that called in and showed your support for both Paul and I during these changes.

We are still working together -- Paul's Country studio is next door to the Oldies studio. We've worked it out so he'll pop by every morning to update You and me on sports. His Daily Sports Report should be on the air around 5:30 am. Again, everywhere we go, Paul (The Kap'n) and I get comments about how much you've enjoyed the time we played together. We collectively Thank You for your kind words and the time you've spent listening to us.

Over the years the one thing I've learned about working in radio is that it's always changing. We, as listeners and performers, make the adjustments and continue on. We've just been through one of those changes, and from this vantage point, it could've been worse. Salem Media of Hawaii is trying to keep its radio stations alive in this difficult economy and I can't find fault with that. We listen for free, but somebody has to pay the bills to keep it going! So I invite you to continue listening to Oldies 107.9 -- We'll have a good time!

And now, if you have a "hankering" for a country song or two, tune in to The Kap'n & the Outlaw morning show on Hawaii's Country Music, KHCM 97.5.

Does that Nature Bee stuff really work?

I can tell You it's been 6 months for me and even I'm surprised by the changes in energy level I have these days! My day starts at 3 am and usually ends around 8 pm, when I put my two toddler sons down to sleep. I don't get out of this office usually until 4 pm (on a good day!). Take my word for it -- I don't think I'd be able to keep this schedule if it weren't for Nature Bee. Try it for yourself and see if it works for you.

The Nature Bee toll free number is: 1-866-834-8355

Their website is http://www.naturebee.com/
